The aim of this teaching resource is the non-commercial, efficient and broad dissemination of the "state of knowledge" of the complex problems of the Nuclear Option of Energy Supply.
On one hand the risks and justifications for non-sustainability of nuclear energy systems are well-established. On the other hand there is a lack of dissemination and propagation of the "state of knowledge" in the population. Austrian politicians, members of the EU-parliament, scientists, research institutions, universities, schools, economy managers, banking institutions, affiliated groups, pedagogues, editorial departments of online- and print media, tv and radio stations and many more can achieve a change to sustainable energy and climate policy, but only if working together. With regards to sustainability, the next generation of politicians, scientists and business managers will have to learn, how to recognize "sustainable energy systems". In the future they will withstand non-sustainable energy supply solutions as a matter of course.
Out of this originated the idea for this film discerningly illustrating the Nuclear Option of Energy Supply with focus on risks and non-sustainability. This 30 minute animation film (3 parts 10 minutes each) is dedicated to increasing awareness, and combines the informative value of a science-based dialogue with a perceivably simplified and likeable visualization. It presents itself as an instrument for the energy and climate policy of a country and facilitates the public discourse about this delicate issue.
The first aim of this animated short film is to support people dedicated to successfully accomplishing a convincing sustainable energy and climate policy, in order to face the political pressure of the nuclear option for energy supply in the EU. The support of a well-informed population is the second aim of this short film, to remove barriers for the change to a sustainable energy and climate policy as claimed by scientists.
The "Institute of Safety and Risk Sciences" of the "University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences" in Vienna composed, in close cooperation with a scientific advisory board, the science-based script to the subject "Nuclear Option of Energy Supply". On this basis text, a communication scientist authored a simplified and pleasing dialogue. This dialogue was then translated into English. Both language versions were tested by pedagogues in view of an appropriate concept, qualitative language, and gender-neutral language. With the contribution of a psychologist and a pedagogue as well as several quality loops, the movie offers several quality standards. As part of the quality control, the storyboard was given to a focus group, which was subsequently tested by a psychologist. The output of the quality test was considered within the finalisation of the film. Hence the suitability of the film as a teaching resource was achieved. A final acceptance test defined the possibilities and constraints of the film as an educational film.
