Sustainable management of the rural environment through the implementation of organic farming systems.(Resource ID: 320)

Material acquisition represents an opportunity for students and for farmers who implement organic farming systems. Students will be able to recognize the specific situation of the implementation of organic farming systems. Through the recognition of these systems, access to information and its transfer will be possible to link the academic system and agricultural business. This will constitute a basis for sustainable management of the territory, based on European directives for organic farming and rural landscape. Project consultation and collaboration with agricultural business presents an interdisciplinary research.

The project describes the consultations that can be made with the students so that they in connection with agricultural business, organic farms, can improve environmental management. The project will be implemented by the staff in cooperation with the organic business community, based on the Albanian legislation for organic farming (Law nr.9199, dated 26.02.2004 "On the production, processing, certification and marketing of organic products"), European directives (Authorized by the rate of Directive (EEC) no. Directive 2092/91 and (EEC) nr.834 / 2007), UNI EN ISO 14001:2004.

The resource set consists of 3 directions:

–      Active learning and live consultancy I - Confirmation of the scope of the work:  The student together with the  agricultural organic  farm   will develop a work plan with the aim of obtaining the output of this collaboration  and can set an agreement between the students and staff of farm (farm owner, factory staff, environmental and senior management)

–       Active learning and live consultancy II- Field study: The students will interview identified farm organic staff, and collect and analyse data related to present the environmental and societal impacts of organic farming to the environment.

–       Active learning and live consultancy III - Reporting and presentation: After conducting and analysing the data, the students will prepare results and recommendations for the organic farm. Besides a report, they will also present the results and recommendations to the organic farms and their owners.

Integration of Social Stakeholders
Organic farms have participated in training and seminars where students had the opportunity to come into contact with organic farmers and exchange their experience of the sustainable management of the environment through the implementation of organic agriculture and improving the rural landscape. The stakeholders from agricultural business, organic farms, receive benefits from cooperation with students through the creation of a new perspective for sustainable management of rural territory. They will receive information from academic fields and recommendations on to make improvements to their organic farms.

Learning Outcomes
–To negotiate the scope of the work with the organic business organisation (association of marketing organic agriculture product) which provides the business with practical support in relation to the development of an ISO14001 environmental management system.

–Determination of the farm on which the project will be done and who are interested in the environmental sustainable development. – Farms should be open and ready to collaborate with students, owners or staff must be willing to speak with students and give data on their farms. –Site visits have to be scheduled for a) the discussion of the scope of the work; b) to proceed with conducting interviews and c) presentation of results and recommendations.
