Resource Description

Sustainability Bingo(Resource ID: 71)

Sustainability Bingo is a fun activity that encourages greater attention during presentations. Participants write down particular words relevant to the topic they expect to hear in the presentation. In listening out for these words, participants generally pay greater attention to the content.

Sustainability Bingo requires participants to draw a 5 x 5 grid and fill the spaces with specific words relevant to the topic they expect to hear in a presentation or lecture. During the course of the presentation participants cross out words and the first person to complete their grid shouts out “Bingo” or some other pre-established word. Winners for first horizontal, vertical or diagonal row completed also shout out.

The interactive nature of the activity keeps the groups attention on the content of the lecture. It is particularly useful in circumstances where multiple groups are presenting one after the other, in these situations attention and motivation suffers most.

The activity can also serve to spark discussion after a presentation as to why certain words/ concepts/ theories did not come up – or were not referenced.
